RIVERSIDE: Contaminated sewer site work group forming

The state Department of Toxic Substances Control is seeking residents to get input on possible testing around the ag park.

Riverside residents can apply through Wednesday, May 18, to participate in a work group to review contamination concerns in the neighborhood around a former sewer plant site.

The land at Crest and Rutland avenues, known as the agricultural or ag park, is in the midst of a second environmental cleanup to remove cancer-causing chemicals called PCBs.

Some residents have worried that contaminated soil blew from the site into nearby homes, so the state Department of Toxic Substances Control, which is overseeing the cleanup, will gather community input on how to address properties around the ag park.

To apply, visit www.dtsc.ca.gov/AgPark or call 714-484-5354. Work group meetings will be open to the public.
